Jean Gaffin OBE Hon. Dsc. Hon FRCPCH MSc left school at 16 and worked as a secretary. She went to university in her twenties after which she taught leaving her post as Senior Lecture at the Polytechnic (now University) of the South Bank in 1979 to work as a Chief Executive in the voluntary sector.
After retirement she took on a roles including chairing Brent Primary Care Trust, serving as a Trustee on St Luke’s Hospice and as chair of the Patient Liaison Committee of the British Pain Society.
Current activities include membership of a NICE Quality Standards Committee and serving as an Associate Hospital Manager in two mental health trusts.
Widowed, she has two children and three grandchildren.
